The newly-formed Stellar Piano Trio combines the worldy performing
experience of three musicians who are already well installed into the musical
scene of Southeastern Michigan.
Brazilian pianist, Maria Meirelles, began her musical studies
at the age of three and graduated from the Brazilian Conservatory at the age
of thirteen studying with her mother Nicia Roubaud. In the United States she
received her Bachelor, Master, and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from the University
of Michigan where she studied with renowned pianist Gyorgy Sandor.
Described as “Prodigious, a real virtuoso…, with talent and temperament”
(Detroit News), Ms. Meirelles is acclaimed by audiences and critics alike throughout
the United States and Latin America. “A most impressively endowed artist”
(Gyorgy Sandor), she is constatntly praised for her “eloquent style”,
“beautiful tone” and “brilliant technique”.
Ms. Meirelles is most identified with the performance of the complete 32 piano
sonatas by Beethoven. She has often played the entire cycle in a month long
series of recitals, most notably in her New York debut at Carnegie Recital Hall,
in Mexico City, at the University of Michigan, and at Detroit Orchestra Hall.
The Orchestra Hall series was recorded live by the Detroit affiliate of National
Public Radio, WDET.
During her distinguished career, Ms. Meirelles has appeared in concert under
the baton of many notable Maestri, including Arthur Fiedler, Sixten Ehrling
and Gyora Bernstein. She has performed with the Fort Lauderdale Orchestra, the
Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Grand Rapids Symphony Orchestra and most southeast
Michigan orchestras. In Mexico, she has appeared with several orchestras and
has the distinction of performing with the Mexican National Symphony in a command
performance for President Lopez Portillo. She was a featured soloist in the
Beethoven Festival in Guanajuato and she is a frequent soloist at the Parnassos
International Concert Series in Monterrey. In Mexico City, she was awarded the
Aguila de Tlatelolco which is given to distinguished artists by the Mexican
Foreign Ministry.
A frequent recitalist at the Detroit Institute of Arts, she has also performed
often in Chicago, New York Lincoln Center, the New England Conservatory in Boston,
and at the National Gallery in Washington DC. She also has numerous radio and
television appearances to her credit both in the United States ad Mexico.
Cellist Debra Fayroian is an active soloist, chamber musician,
and orchestral performer. At appearances throughout the United States and Canada,
she has captivated audiences with her musical insight and beauty of tone.
Ms. Fayroian became a member of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in 1975, leaving
her post as Principal Cellist of the Toledo Symphony Orchestra. Concurrently,
she has been solo cellist with Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings. She is also
a regular soloist with many of Michigan’s orchestras.
Debra has been guest artist and clinician to the Interlochen Center for the
Arts, Bravo! Colorado Music Festival and is a regular performing artist of the
Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival (MI). In addition to her work with Detroit
Chamber Winds & Strings, Ms. Fayroian plays an active role in Michigan’s
music education communities and has conducted master classes at The University
of Michigan, Eastern Michigan and Oakland Universities. Maintaining a private
class of students and young professional musicians, she holds a special interst
in coaching young chamber musicians. Ms. Fayroian has served as founding Director
of Strings at the Cranbrook (MI) Summer Music Academy and on the Michigan American
Strings Teachers Association (MASTA) Board of Directors. She was also a founding
member of the Sonnet Quartet, in residence at Oakland University.
“...her playing has enormous animation and assurance. It was big, impulsive,
generous and involved.”~The New York Times
American-born violinist and violist Adrienne Jacobs
enjoys a career as soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral musician. To date,
she has been heard on stages across Europe and the United States. As
Associate Concertmaster of the Ann Arbor Symphony and substitute violinist with
the Detroit Symphony Orchestra Adrienne performs regularly on the symphonic
stage. Recently Adrienne participated in an Eastern European tour as a member
of the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival Kammerorchester under the direction
of Heinrich Schiff, highlighted by an appearance at the prestigious Prague Spring
Festival. Since her solo debut at age 13, Adrienne has performed as soloist
with many of Southeastern Michigan’s orchestras, including the Detroit
Symphony Orchestra on two separate occasions. However, her passion for recitals
and chamber music has lead her to collaborate with many of the DSO’s members
as well as Pinchas Zukerman. Notably, Adrienne was the Grand Prize winner of
both the 1998 and 1999 American String Teachers’ Association Michigan
Chamber Music Festival Competition which lead to many subsequent performances
across Michigan including a performance at Rackham Auditorium presented by the
University Musical Society of Ann Arbor. Also an avid performer of music from
the Baroque, Adrienne has performed and coached with members of Cleveland’s
Apollo’s Fire, and Edward Parmentier. Adrienne received her M.M. from
the Cleveland Institute of Music, and her B.M. with Honors from The University
of Michigan. She plays on a Matteo Goffriller violin made in 1706.

The Stellar Piano Trio
is embarking on a project to perform all of the chamber music for Piano, Violin,
and Cello by Ludwig van Beethoven. The project was inspired by pianist Maria
Meirelles, who has performed numerous times the complete cycle of Piano Sonatas
to critical acclaim, and was quickly agreed upon by both Debra and Adrienne.
The project will include the complete Cello and Piano Sonatas, Violin and
Piano Sonatas, and Piano Trios in a mini-festival of concerts approximately
two weeks long. Preliminary concerts will be held over the next year in the
metro-Detroit area.
